6 Reasons Your Bike Won't Pedal Forward (And How To Fix It).
Bearings, it would not hurt but check the races for abnormal wear or heat stains. If good, just re-pack with redline bearing grease and put it back together but this time tighten the bearing nut with pads out and make sure wheels spin equally on both sides. Just what I do. Most will make sure washer barely moves. Then i removed the cover to expose the pressure plate and see that the plate is being pushed and released fine. When the clutch is squeezed the outer gear around the plate spins freely when the wheel it spun. When the plate is seated then everything spins when the wheel is spun. Seems that something inside the engine is not doing what is. Wheels should spin free without the caliper on, don't mistaken a bent rotor or sticking pistons on the caliper for worn bearings. NSK or FAG is who I always go with. NSK is the oem bearing for most everything on a JAP bike. SKF Explorer bearings are pretty much the best bearing you can buy, expensive but they really are the best.

Permalink Reply by David P. on August 8, 2016 at 10:30am. Leave the bike right-side up but elevate the rear wheel to unload it, then spin it to see if it spins normally or not. If it does, and the problem only exists with a loaded rear wheel, then normal riding loads are deforming the wheel. Yes, something isn't turning freely. It's either the front wheel, the back wheel, or the pedals and chain. Lift the bike off the ground and turn the front wheel by hand. If it doesn't turn very freely, it could be the hand-brake is dragging or the hub bearing is too tight. Try the back wheel in both directions. The front wheel on my mtn bike isn't spinning as freely as it should when off the ground. I'm not sure if there is friction between the brake disc and pads (juicy 5 brake system) or if there is an iss... Then spin your front wheel. Eye the rotors first to see if there is any friction on the pads. Then maybe check to make sure the wheel is.
Should cranks spin freely in a new bottom bracket? - Weight Weenies.
The wheel should spin easily. It may not freewheel for very long, but it should be easy to spin. The rear may not rotate freely if: The chain needs lube (even if it doesn't it is a drag on the rear wheel and it will slow it down) Rear brakes are tight to the disk Wheel is out of alignment with the chain. Participant. When spun as hard as possible, the rear wheel should not spin more than one complete revolution if the brakes are adjusted properly. On the wheel that spins freely check the self-adjuster as it may be frozen in place and not allowing the brake to be adjusted on its own. It is too loose. The other side sounds like it might be too tight. Dosent make any difference, just want to make sure its in the right area. Thats normal for a front wheel drive car with the tranny in park and other drive wheel on ground. If you jack up both wheels the other will spin reverse direction. If you are in neutral then it would spin freely. Typically a stuck brake will pull to the opposite side when.
Bike's wheels spinning freely only for a short time?.
Back the wing nut off at the end of the brake if the wheel spins freely. If it does, then turn the wing nut in until you begin to hear/feel it rub as you spin the tire. Then back the wing nut off 1-1/2 or to 2 much you back it off effects the play at the foot lever.. Oct 29, 2021 If the brakes are fine and nothing else is rubbing, pop the wheel off the bike and try spinning the axle; if it doesnt spin freely then that means theres too much pressure on the bearings. Note this is really unlikely if the shop only changed the tire.Jul 30, 2019. Wilmslow, Cheshire. 16 Oct 2015. #6. The wheel should spin for a few minutes if the bearings are.
Why is my new front wheel not spinning? - Bicycles Stack Exchange.
Try the test with the axle loose and then tight (should be the same) After a few hours of use, a wheel will loosen up some and spin easier. If you greased the bearings, you may of over greased them as well. Unless your wheel will not rotate more than 1/2 a turn, the drag does not matter. 2. 1. Link to comment. The rear wouldn't spin freely if the front wheels were on the ground. Jack up front and rear and I could spin all 4 wheels freely. They all turned the same direction and there was some driveline resistance but they would all spin. Not sure what else to tell you. 11-17-2013, 11:16 PM #14.
How freely should the rear wheel spin? | Dirt Bike Addicts.
Inside the sprocket gear, there is a mechanism that lets the chain engage the rear wheel only when it is moving faster than the wheel is turning; else the wheel will turn freely. They are either several spring-loaded ballbearings that self deploy when the outer ring turns faster and recoil when it turns slower than the inner ring. or there is a. 1. chain off the crank. 2. remove the non drive side crank arm by removing the 2 pinch bolts and the fastener that goes through the shaft. 3. slide the crank out the drive side (does it slide easy or need some force/is it pressed in?) 4. use a pick etc to remove the covers on the bearings.
How smooth should the crank spin - Road Bike, Cycling Forums.
A car wheel will not spin freely, like say a bicycle wheel lifted off the ground. As long as you can spin the tire without a big effort all is fine. As soon as you release your hand from the spinning wheel it will stop spinning quickly. If you can spin the tire with one hand, it is likely fine.
How do bike wheels keep turning when the rider stops pedalling?.
I think you should loosen the quick release about a quarter or half a turn same with the hub nuts. Hubs should be slightly loose and when the QR is clamped down the hub loses the play. 1. level 1. ยท 12 min. ago. It's too loose in the fork. Make sure it's sat properly in the dropouts and tighten up the quick release skewer alot tighter.
Should wheel hub spin freely?.
However, if your wheels aren't spinning because they're stuck in mud or snow on the ground, you won't be able to move forward. That's why it's important for both wheels to spin freely when your bike is in motion. If one wheel is spinning faster than the other, try using more pressure on the back tire so that both wheels are turning at the same.
Wheels do not spin freely when rear end is lifted - NASIOC.
Prying didn't help. Prying and hitting the side popped it loose and it moved back into position with no further problems. Wheel is spinning freely as it should. Rode it a bit (trying to find a place that had a replacement screw for the brake reservoir, found one!), everything seems ok now.

Sounds like a brake pad binding, on a rotor that's not quite true. Off I go to remove the wheel, and sure enough, when I turn the rotor, it turns freely for about 3/4 rotation, and binds on the remaining 1/4. So, remove, clean, grease pads and calipers. Done. Except that when I turn the rotor with the caliper off, it still has the same. It's either the front wheel, the back wheel, or the pedals and chain. Lift the bike off the ground and turn the front wheel by hand. If it doesn't turn very freely, it could be the hand-brake is dragging or the hub bearing is too tight. Try the back wheel in both directions. It should move freely in the forward direction.

Step 2. Take a position close to the front wheel. Spin the wheel briskly by hand and listen closely. Clicking at the area of the rim indicates loose spokes or dry spoke nuts. Jiggle each spoke by hand to locate loose spokes. Tighten the spoke nuts on loose spokes with a spoke wrench. Score: 4.8/5 (22 votes). If you jack up both wheels the other will spin reverse direction. If you are in neutral then it would spin freely.Typically a stuck brake will pull to the opposite side when you hit the brakes from it, then when you go you will pull to the side of the stuck brake and smell it for a few miles.

The rear will never spin as freely as the front. There's a freewheel and at least two additional bearings in the rear wheel, all of which add drag. Test as tlg suggested, wheel off the bike turn the axle by hand. If it stiff or rough at all then there's a problem. Rough means a bad bearing. Stiff is either a bad bearing or bad preload adjustment.

Right trying to sort out some brakes today ,bike has been running fine , and when putting the wheel back on its not spinning at all , It's like there is some stepped reistancre,it turns with small equal pressure each time. I held the axle in two clamps and it's exactly the same. Bearing maybe ? Axle is equal both sides and moves together. There are two way to adjust the caliper. 1. Loosen the two screws where caliper mounts to the frame. Slip a piece of paper between the disc and stationary pad. Then hold the brake lever while tightening the bolts. You may have to do it a second time with a thicker spacer (paper) if it still rubs the stationary pad.
